Winter reading

February is ending, and winter is starting to turn towards spring.

Treacherous Campaign is the eighth book in the series Tales of the Kashallans, by celebrated author Celu Amberstone. For fans of the 'Hundred Worlds' approach used in Star Trek and in Golden Age magazines, there are diverse settings and cultures along the journey taken by these human and alien characters.

Nathan and Phillip, with their symbiotes, strain to lead the Kashallan Alliance against their Ghostlander enemies. They must learn to trust native war magics as well as their own off-world technology, as all resources are needed to protect them in this struggle. And what can Tessa do if her human body is not strong enough for the fighting that her own inner Demon must win, to protect them all?

I am a mixed-race, Indigenous author and for that reason my writing perspective is different than what the established publishing industry is used to. I have been told many times by New York agents and editors, in their refusal letters, “Your writing is great, but I don’t know how to market your books.” But with help from online sites like D2D or Smash words I have been able to offer my books in reputable stores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble nonetheless. Self-publishing isn’t a shortcut to fame and glory, however. It means you have to do, yourself, much that would have been done in the past by a traditional publisher. Paperback covers adjusted

The series cover for Tales of the Kashallans is consistent for every title: there's a striking stylized image of an alien being called a khutani , which you could be forgiven for guessing was an image of some kind of dragon, if you hadn't read any of the books. Above this being appears the title for this volume in the series, such as Blood Magic's Snare , and Tales of the Kashallans Book 6 . Below the alien being is the author's name, Celu Amberstone. That pattern of words and stylized alien is consistent throughout the series Tales of the Kashallans , making them recognizable at a glance. But one thing is not so consistent for these cover images, and that's the colour. The shade of dark green used for book covers in this series appears very well on computer screens and cell phones or tablets. But when we released the first books in this series as paperbacks, it soon became apparent that this shade of dark green was almost black on a printed cover! Too dark, at any ...

A moment from Taste of Memory

The new series from Kashallan Press is Tales of Tasimu . First in the series, Taste of Memory  can be found at our distributor at this link . This novel is a revised and expanded edition of Celu Amberstone's out-of-print novel The Dreamer's Legacy .  Here's an image with a short moment from the book. The second book in the series is When Memory Dies . Both books are available now as ebooks, and soon will be paperbacks as well.
